Industry First! Optosky Becomes the First Spectrometer Manufacturer to Lead an Academic Association
September 14–15, 2026 – The 1st Malaysian Near Infrared Spectroscopy Meeting (MNIRSM 2026) will be held at the School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. This event is not just an international academic conference focusing on NIR, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and hyperspectral imaging — it also marks a milestone for the spectroscopy industry: Optosky Photonics Inc. is the first spectrometer manufacturer in the world to independently drive and co‑found an academic association.
01 From Exhibitor to Organizer: A Role Transformation for Chinese Spectroscopy Companies
For a long time, academic conferences have been dominated by universities, research institutes, and national societies, with instrument manufacturers playing a supporting role as sponsors or exhibitors. Between 2025 and 2026, Optosky has repeatedly served as a core co‑organizer at high‑level academic events in China, including the 3rd Spectroscopy Technology and Application Conference hosted by the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE). Optosky also collaborated with the Spectroscopy Technology and Application Committee of CSOE to hold “Chain Leader System” meetings at the Changsha Global R&D Center, building extensive experience in industry‑university‑research conference management.
02 Deepening Footprint in Southeast Asia: Optosky × USM Strategic Partnership
On April 23, 2026, Dr. Hongfei Liu, founder and CEO of Optosky, led a delegation to visit the School of Physics at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), engaging in in‑depth discussions with Professor Dr. Azhar Abdul Rahman, Dean of the School of Physics, and other senior university officials.
The visit resulted in three strategically significant outcomes:
1. Full support for the launch of MNIRSM 2026
Optosky has been deeply involved in the preparation of the 1st Malaysian Near Infrared Spectroscopy Meeting, providing comprehensive support to ensure a successful event.
2. Joint establishment of a Southeast Asian Spectroscopy Technology Center
Both parties plan to transform the USM School of Physics into Optosky’s technology demonstration and validation hub in Southeast Asia, supporting application development, customer training, and technical verification in the region. The cooperation has been formally initiated through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and is expected to be completed in phases over three years.
3. Deepened industry‑university‑research collaboration
The discussions also covered potential research collaborations, instrument support, and laboratory development, including knowledge sharing on advanced spectroscopy and funding opportunities for joint research projects — reflecting a strong commitment from both industry and academia to drive innovation and industrial application in spectroscopy.
03 Driving Progress Through Conferences: Optosky’s Sense of Responsibility
Why can Optosky become the first spectrometer manufacturer to found an academic association? The answer lies in three core strengths:
- Technological leadership – Optosky is ranked No. 1 in Raman spectroscopy in China and top 3 globally in fiber‑optic spectroscopy, with products sold in more than 60 countries and a 50% market share in Russia.
- Global vision – From sponsoring national spectroscopy symposia to hosting international conferences, Optosky has built an industry‑university‑research network covering China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
- Sense of mission – As a national “Key Little Giant” enterprise specialized in high‑end scientific instruments, Optosky is committed to promoting domestic substitution and internationalization of advanced analytical instruments, striving to become “China’s Thermo Fisher Scientific”.
